Do I need an external antenna? Is it included with the product?
Yes and yes, this board has no on board antenna however a u.FL antenna is provided in the box.
Which Arducam models are compatible with the on board camera connector?
The camera adapter (J6 header) is a 20 pin adapter for Arducam cameras such as OV7675 and OV7670. For more information on how to use the camera visit the GIGA R1 WiFi Camera Guide.
Can I use my previous Arduino UNO, Arduino Mega or Arduino Due shields with the GIGA R1 WiFi?
Yes, mechanically the shields are compatible however take into account that the GIGA R1 WiFi operates at 3.3 V, so we recommend double checking the tech specs of the shield to make sure it works at this voltage.
Historically, libraries have always been a problem. Getting the bundle up and running was a breeze. It just worked. My only complaint is that compiles are VERY slow with the Arduino IDE. Even with a MacBook M3 Max. Something about the toolchain, I think.
The devices are high quality, and with the GIGA R1 I finally have a prototyping environment that is powerful enough for all my projects. Immediately recommended it to a friend.

I’ve got some buttons on the screen, turning digital outputs on and off. I’ll be busy for days playing with this. The potential for this device is crazy Great job arduino team!
Wow this is the fastest arduino display that I have ever seen! Nice color saturation awesome clarity and did I mention that it is lightning fast. Excellent touch pad response.
The arduino giga is nothing short of awesome, plenty of ram and program space. Extra core to read sensors with the ability to leave the interrupts on on the main core and off on the m4 core to do time sensitive processes!!!
Take Arduino to a whole new level. 30 times faster, dual CPU, bright beautiful display, tightly integrated compact module. More of everything I loved about the MEGA but even better and more refined.
It's great unit and the custom display is a great addition. The WiFi Board, unfortunately arrived with bent input ports during shipping due to pressure. A hard plastic casing around the board (similar to the clear shell on the back of the board during shipping) or more sturdy cardboard box casing might help in future, as these units are mostly shipped in padded bags.
The after sale service was fantastic as I did get a replacement in few days. Thanks again!
Documentation is a bit inadequate, and examples are hard to come by. The learning curve for the display is steep, and the available libraries are tricky, especially for the touchscreen. The jury is still out.
J6, the 20 pins pass-through header, was not soldered correctly on one of my two GIGA. Luckily, the support help me figure this out quickly. Everything is working great after a quick resoldering. Awesome product.
The GIGA in the bundle was defective. The USB-C port was non-functional. It was a long process to get customer service to agree with the defect. Three separate sets of tasks, photos of the boards, boxes. Copies of errors and test outputs etc. finally got agreement that the product was bad and a promise to replace it. Now, after another week has passed, I have no notification of shipment and CS has not responded to my request for an estimate of shipment. My project had been delayed due to your poor service. Won’t do this again!
Latest .ide recognizes the Giga R1 and appears to compile and upload some of the examples but have been unable to get the display to work. Think I have all the necessary libraries installed. Have recently been working on a Teensy project that has been marginal successsful. Have also used UNO and Mega 2560 and found things much “simpler” with earlier .ide.
Had problems with the WiFi antenna on the Giga board but finally able to get it to connect. Also haven ‘t been able to get WiFi to work.
Tried connecting to forum but haven’t been successful yet.
I love Arduino as a company, I've used arduino boards in the past without issue. My package came in earlier than expected, which was perfect because I'm working on a tight project deadline and I'm really trying to have a polished design by the end. However, when I tried pluging the Arduino Giga R1 Wifi board up, nothing happened and I couldn't get it to turn on or reset or anything. So I contacted support and I was sent an automated email response, stating that they would get to me as soon as possible. That was 3 days ago and as a result of my deadline I was forced to order another board separately. I dont blame Arduino, I understand mistakes happen. I just wish their support could have been more helpful. Im a highschool student living on my own so I don't spend 60$ lightly.
